Profile: Serulian the Skeptic has earned his sobriquet. He wanders the world, preaching against superstition and fraud. He firmly believes that the world functions according to definable, mechanistic, scientific principles, and that magic is nothing but tricks and chicanery. This is a difficult position to maintain in a world when any fool can see that magic works, but Serulian is utterly convinced of his position.
Indeed, he is so convinced that the mere strength of his conviction often prevents magic or dispells it within his vicinity. This does not surprise wizards, who know well that magic is the manipulation of symbols, and the speeches and tests applied by Serulian to "prove" his position themselves involve the use of symbols. Consequently, without being aware of it, he himself is a powerful wizard.
Most wizards find Serulian quite laughable, a fact that he finds intolerable. He is a man prone to sudden rages. It is frustrating being a skeptic in a world full of magicians.
