C is for Commie, but also for Cookie,Comment and Conpulsion

Something irritating involving cookies and my browser is causing issues with approving comments on this blog, so apologies for any delays.

In (probably) less irritating news, I was at Conpulsion in Edinburgh over the weekend. I actually got to play PARANOIA for once instead of running it, which was interesting.

(And terrifying - the wrong side of the screen is a bad place to be!)

My (third set of) dying thoughts were addressed to my psychic overlords in Psion, informing them that a) the Loyalty Officer was a powerful mutant and should be recruited to the cause and b) the Loyalty Officer should be terminated on sight for his repeated episodes of wilful sabotage and cowardice.

I don't think they listened.

Recursive Blogging Is The New Black

Mongoose Publishing have launched the Planet Mongoose a blog where the designers and staff will post news and other ramblings. PARANOIA news will remain here, though - I'll put a link on the Mongoose blog whenever an important post goes up here.

Make a meal with Hot Fun, Cold Fun, Sort of Warm Fun, Fun With Eggs...

The Game Chef contest is running again. Contestants have to choose three from a set of four keyworks, and design a playable game based on those three words within a two-week deadline. This year's words are
MEMORY, DRUG, PALACE & CURRENCY or SACRED, ROSE, THREAD & INCONSISTENCY.

There are several PARANOIA fans involved in Game Chef, both behind the scenes and as contestants. Contests like this are wonderful for stimulating design and innovation - certainly, I've had a rather nice idea that may see fruition in some future PARANOIA sourcebook...

The Game Chef forums are The www.game-chef.com/workshop, and there's still time to tap into the contest.

Report on Reports of CPU Reporting in BLG Sector

For the last several yearcycles, High Programmer Varney has been maintaining disinformation source CPU/BLG/4232/ALPHA, also known as the PARANOIA blog, ostensibly for the purposes of 'informing' the lower clearance citizens about Official Publications, but the source was actually a major distribution vector for Approved Mindstate Memetic Viruses.

Since High Programmer Varney's reassignment to CLASSIFIED OMEGA, updates to the disinformation source have been the responsibility of Junior High Programmer Hanrahan.

Due to an upgrade performed allegedly by High Programmer Costikyan Commie sabotage, updates to the disinformation source were blocked for some weeks. This situation has now been rectified (and we salute the efforts of both High Programmer Varney and those late Heroes of Alpha Complex, Troubleshooter Team #543). Updates will now resume on a more regular basis.

No, seriously. If you make non-commercial use of stuff here, that's fine, but we reserve all commercial rights, and all rights to prepare derivative material on things posted here. In addition, posters of comments must be aware that we reserve the right to use whatever material they post here, and/or derivative works therefrom, in PARANOIA, supplementary products, licensed products, or derivative work, without any compensation whatever, for all time to come and throughout this universe and any alternate universes that may be discovered. At our discretion, and without obligation, we may, if it strikes our fancy, make a good faith effort to credit you for stuff we use, but we can't promise it won't slip our minds, in the hurly-burly of meeting deadlines. (Actually, we intend to do that, but it's possible we'll screw up.) By posting comments, you grant us a non-revocable, perpetual, non-exclusive license to use whatever you post, in whatsoever fashion we deem useful, here or in any other forum, in PARANOIA or in any and all future products, including but not limited to derivative works, and specifically but not exclusively including the microbrewery beer, ale and porter; salty and sugary snack; and tattoo design rights deriving therefrom. Woohoo! Is that enough legalese for you? The Computer is Your Friend.
